چکیده

Pomegranate exhibits important postharvest quality losses that limit its storage potential, caused mainly by weight loss, chilling injury and fungal diseases. In this work, we evaluated the effect of novel hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) edible coatings (ECs) formulated with three different lipids (beeswax (BW), carnauba wax, glycerol monostearate), as hydrophobic components, two GRAS salts (potassium bicarbonate (PBC) sodium benzoate (SB)), antifungal ingredients, to control loss natural decay ‘Mollar de Elche’ pomegranates during at 20 °C. Afterwards, selected ECs commercial modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) films were assayed alone or in combination preserve fruit stored 5 °C for 4 months plus 1 week Results showed amended SB reduced pomegranate latent infections Botrytis cinerea wound diseases Penicillium spp. Moreover, MAP technologies confirmed an efficient mean freshness, prevent shriveling rind browning, reduce decay, thus extending life pomegranates. The HPMC-BW-SB + was most promising treatment it without negatively affecting physicochemical sensory quality.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Postharvest Storage of Mushrooms. A Review

Production and consumption of edible mushrooms have grown continuously in the last fifteen years, particularly due to interest in their nutritional and health benefits. The three most cultivated mushrooms worldwide are Agaricus bisporus (common mushrooms), Lentinus edodes (shiitake) and Pleurotus spp. (oyster mushroom). Mushrooms are highly perishable. They tend to lose quality right after harv...

Antihyperglycemic and Antioxidative Effects of Hydroxyethyl Methylcellulose (HEMC) and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) in Mice Fed with a High Fat Diet

The effect of dietary feeding of hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) on the glucose metabolism and antioxidative status in mice under high fat diet conditions was investigated. The mice were randomly divided and given experimental diets for six weeks: normal control (NC group), high fat (HF group), and high fat supplemented with either HEMC (HF+HEMC grou...

Application of Modified Atmosphere Packaging and Related Technology in Postharvest Handling of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are important source of carbohydrates, proteins, organic acids, vitamins and minerals for human nutrition. When plants or plant parts are used by humans, whether for food, or for aesthetic purpose, there is always a postharvest component. Postharvest losses in fresh fruits and vegetables may occur anywhere from the point where the food has been harvested or gathered up to ...
